Phenol is widely used in the production of phenolic resins, epoxy resins, nylon fibers, plasticizers, developers, preservatives, insecticides, fungicides, dyes, pharmaceuticals, fragrances .

Phenol (English: Phenol or phenyl hydroxide, commonly known as carbolic acid), defined as C6H6O, is mainly produced by the oxidation and decomposition of isopropylbenzene. It is an important organic chemical raw material and can be used to produce various chemical products and intermediates such as phenolic resin and bisphenol A. It is also used as a solvent and disinfectant.
Phenol is an organic compound with the chemical formula C6H5OH. It is a colorless needle shaped crystal with a special odor, toxic, and an important raw material for the production of certain resins, fungicides, preservatives, and drugs such as aspirin. It can also be used for disinfecting surgical instruments and excreta, skin sterilization, itching relief, and treating otitis media. Melting point 43 ℃, slightly soluble in water at room temperature, easily soluble in organic solvents; When the temperature is above 65 ℃, it can dissolve with water in any proportion. Phenol is corrosive and can cause local protein denaturation upon contact. Its solution can be washed with alcohol when it comes into contact with the skin. A small portion of phenol exposed to air is oxidized by oxygen to quinones and turns pink. When encountering trivalent iron ions that turn purple, this method is usually used to test phenol.

Widely used in the manufacture of phenolic resins, epoxy resins, nylon fibers, plasticizers, developers, preservatives, insecticides, fungicides, dyes, pharmaceuticals, fragrances, and explosives. Industrial phenol is an important organic chemical raw material, which can be used to produce chemical products and intermediates such as phenolic resin, caprolactam, bisphenol A, salicylic acid, picric acid, pentachlorophenol, 2,4-D, adipic acid, acetylethoxyaniline, etc. It has important applications in chemical raw materials, alkylphenols, synthetic fibers, plastics, synthetic rubber, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, fragrances, dyes, coatings, and oil refining industries. In addition, phenol can also be used as a solvent, experimental reagent, and disinfectant. An aqueous solution of phenol can separate proteins from DNA on chromosomes in plant cells, facilitating DNA staining. Medical usage and dosage: 1. Disinfection of instruments and treatment of excreta with 1% to 5% aqueous solution. 2. Skin sterilization and itching relief: Apply 2% ointment to the affected area. 3. For otitis media, use 1% to 2% phenol glycerin ear drops three times a day. Preparation and specifications of phenol ointment: 2%. Phenolglycerol: ① 1%; ② 2%. Medication instructions: This product has strong tissue penetration and is only used on small areas of the skin. High concentration topical application can cause tissue damage, even necrosis. The aqueous solution should not exceed a concentration of 2% when used on the body surface, and should not be sealed after external application. Adverse reactions: This product is corrosive and irritating to tissues. It has been reported that using phenol to disinfect and clean cradles and mattresses in poorly ventilated areas can cause neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, which has been proven fatal to infants. Taboos: Diaper dermatitis is contraindicated for children and infants under 6 months old. Avoid applying to damaged skin and wounds.
